The lament of the defenseless mother hen

The Scorn of a Mother Hen My hardened claws do dig, upon your earth and scar your ‘ sacred ground ’ with my presence. Your earth, and yet you still present my young so proudly upon your own sleight of hand, and wonder why I peck when it reaches for me. The shame is never ingrained for long, for I long for the grain, and move t o w a r d s it like a dog runs to a bone or runs to a sheltered life and destroys it.
